Kosovo is ready for the final stage of negotiations to normalize relations with Serbia, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci told the European Union – Western Balkans summit in Sofia.
“Kosovo is ready to enter the final stage of the dialogue with Serbia on a legally binding agreement aimed at normalizing relations and reconciliation,” he said at the opening of the summit in the Bulgarian capital.
“We support fully all crucial principles of cooperation, good neighbourly relations and the need for sustainable and mandatgory solutions to bilateral disagreements,” Thaci said.
He said that the rules of the game need to be equal for all which, in the case of Kosovo includes a quick end to the visa liberalisation process.
The President said that Kosovo has met all 95 of the criteria required to abolish visas for its citizens travelling in the EU. “If we really want to bring the region closer together, this must also include the removal of the various barriers including accepting qualifications, certificates and other documents, cutting down time spent at border crossings, interaction in energy and freedom of movement without visas within the region.
