Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has said on Monday Kosovo remains a key stumbling block on Serbia's road to the European Union.

In an interview with the AFP, Vucic insisted Pristina should make concessions.

“As I see it, the only big problem, a real obstacle to our European path is the issue of Kosovo,” Vucic said.

He added that "it's all about Kosovo, whether we'll be able to do that or not."

Vucic said a compromise “which both sides will be a bit unhappy with” was needed, instead of a situation in which “one side gets it all, while the other is humiliated.”

he called on the EU and the West generally to send a strong message to Kosovo saying it also had to make concessions.

"And of course it's more about Serbs but it's also about the other side and they have to get a very strong message from the EU and from the West that they need to make some concessions as well," he said.

But, he told the AFP, that he believed Kosovo Albanians were not ready to make any concessions.

The Belgrade - Pristina dialogue has been at standstill for over a month, and the United Nations’ Security Council told both sides to continue the talks on the normalisation of relations and called on their leaders to refrain from the inflammatory rhetoric.
