The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Serbia Marijan Ivanusa warned on Friday that the epidemiological situation in the country is very serious with record high numbers of new cases daily.

“The expectation is that the epidemiological situation will deteriorate in the coming weeks both in Europe and in Serbia,” he told Belgrade daily Blic. The doctor said that available information shows that the coronavirus is passed on mainly indoors, at crowded restaurants, gatherings, workplaces, indoor public places and at home. “Young people are going out more and more and the spread is being linked to them even though the virus could spread among the older population as well,” Ivanusa said.

“If we want to stop the virus from spreading we have to stick to measures of prevention, keep a physical distance, wear masks, maintain respiratory hygiene and clean hands,” he said.

“We know everyone is tired and that the situation has been going on for some time with no certainty about how long it will last,” Ivanusa said.
