The number of transported passengers dropped by 43 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period a year earlier, the Serbian Republic Statistics Office said on Tuesday.
Passenger transport on domestic lines dropped by 42.1 percent and by 56.4 percent on international lines, the statistics office said. It added that air traffic reported a drop of 57.3 percent while road traffic dropped by 42.3 percent and passenger rail traffic by 45.3 percent. The number of people working in the transport industry rose by 0.3 percent compared to 2019.
Freight transport was 1.2 percent higher than in the same period of 2019 but the ton per kilometer ratio was 2.1 percent lower. Air, river and rail freight transport reported drops while pipeline and road traffic recorded rises.
Conventional mail services reported drops in the first half of 2020 with 4.5 percent fewer letters and 35.3 percent fewer parcels.
Payments dropped by 23.9 percent, land line phone services reported a rise of 4.7 percent and mobile phone services reported a rise of 16.7 percent.
