Moscow has approved the first anti-coronavirus vaccine in the world, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday as quoted by Russian media.

The institute in Moscow developed the vaccine and got the green light by the Russian Health Ministry.

The Sputnik news agency cited Putin as saying he knew the vaccine was pretty effective, formed stable immunity and passed all necessary tests.

He added he expected a mass production soon, adding that was an excellent thing for the whole world.  

Earlier, the media reported that 1,620 volunteers are being tested in Indonesia on the Chinese-made anti-coronavirus vaccine developed by Sinovac Biotech laboratory and named Coronavac.

The tests are due to last till February.

The vaccine is also tested in Brasil where 9,000 volunteers are involved.
