The City Assembly changed the name of (a Croatian region) Zagorje street in Belgrade's Zemun suburb, into the St of Blagoje Jovovic, a Montenegrin Chetnic who, according to his confession, attempted to assassinate Ante Pavelic, the leader of the Nazi puppet Ustasha Independent State of Croatia (NDH) during the World War II.

The decision is a part of the City's plan to change the streets' names given after toponyms and individuals from ex-Yugoslav republics, saying the authorities in those countries did the same with Serbia's toponyms and people after the 1991-1995 war in the former federation.

According to written sources, Jovovic, born in Montenegro, fought for the Yugoslav Army in the Fatherland during World War II as a member of the Bjelopavlic Chetnik brigade.

He joined an anti-fascist partisans group but soon switched back to Chetniks, under the command of Bajo Stanisic.

The City Assembly also decided to erect monuments to writers Mesa Selimovic, Milos Crnjanski, Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj.

In revenge for NDH crimes against the Serbs, Jovovic attempted to murder Pavelic, in Argentina in April 1957. He wounded him, and Pavelic had never wholly recovered.

Jovovic visited Montenegro in 1999, over a half a century after he had left. He went to the Ostrog Monastery where he met the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro Bishop Amfilohije Radovic and publicly confessed he was responsible for the attempted assassination of Pavelić.

Jovovic lived in Argentina running a hotel he owned and died in 1999, months after visiting the homeland, at the age of 77.
