The Standing Working Group for Safety of Journalists condemned the attacks on journalists and media teams during the recent protests in Serbia's major cities, and called for all the assaults, threats and disturbances in work to be reported.
According to the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS), representatives of the Interior Ministry who attended the group's meeting on Friday said that the police received ten reports from the attacked or injured reporters.
“The attackers on N1 TV reporter Petar Gajic and RTS team in Novi Sad have been identified, and they were reported to the competent prosecutors,” they said.
The State Prosecutor's Office informed the group that seven incidents concerning seven reporters during the protests have been reported.
Associations representing media and reporters presented the details on the recorded attacks and disturbance of work of journalists done by violent protesters and the police during the July 7-11 period, stressing that of 28 recorded cases only one has been reported to the police and prosecutors.
The Standing Working Group for Safety of Journalists consists of representatives of the State Prosecutor's Office, Interior Ministry, Association of Journalists of Serbia, Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina, Association of Independent Electronic Media Outlets, Association of Media and Association of Online Media.
