Montenegro’s Public Health Institute is demanding an explanation from its Serbian counterpart of reports that more than 4,000 patients recovered from coronavirus ailments in a single day in Serbia, the Podgorica-based Antena M station reported.

It recalled that the Public Health Institute suggested the opening of Montenegro’s borders with those countries that have a low risk level which means 25 active cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people. That puts the focus on the number of currently infected people. According to official Serbian Health Care Ministry figures, the number of patients who recovered jumped by several thousand in a single day.

The opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS) warned that the latest coronavirus pandemic figures show that the campaign and elections pose a high risk to the public, adding that the Crisis Staff decision to allow mass gatherings is “highly irresponsible and clearly politically motivated”.

The Montenegrin state TV reported an unnamed government official as saying that official Podgorica will not play games with the health of its population.
