The Serbian parliament voted to lift the state of emergency which was declared as part of efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

MPs voted to lift the state of emergency and confirm the decrees imposed by the government with 155 votes and one abstention. The main opposition group, the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) was not present for the vote.

The state of emergency was declared by President Aleksandar Vucic with the support of Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on March 15. The opposition criticized the authorities for claiming that parliament could not meet to declare the state of emergency. Parliament confirmed the president’s decision on April 29.
