A medical study on the coronavirus is set to begin later this week to determine the effects of the pandemic on the population.

Epidemiologists said they will conduct the study to determine the number of asymptomatic and mild forms of infection as well as herd immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The study should cover some 7,000 households with 17,000 people on a voluntary basis. The households will be selected at random and contacted by telephone, study authors said.

According to the study authors, the youngest person tested will be age seven. They said that a group of 1,000 people will be tested first. They will be directed to local medical facilities to fill in three questionnaires and give blood for testing.

According to N1 sources at Belgrade University School of Medicine, this is the first study of its kind to be conducted in Serbia.
