The KRIK investigative journalism portal came under fire from supporters of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for including photographs of the president’s son in a report on organized crime.

The photograph shows Danilo Vucic in the company of Aleksandar Vidojevic who, according to KRIK, is in a police database as Kavacki clan organized crime group and a senior member of the Janjicari football supporters group.

The report about the war between the Kavacki and Skaljarski clans was the result of a joint investigation with the Montenegrin Network for the Affirmation of the NGO Sector (MANS) and the international journalism organization Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

The report said that pictures of Vidojevic and the younger Vucic at various events, such as the World Football Championships in Russia and a Republika Srpska Day celebration in Banja Luka, show that they were close. KRIK did not specify when and where the picture published in the latest installment of the report was made.

Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic reacted to the report with a statement calling it “an unprecedented scandal”. “We are accustomed to attempts at criminalization and demonization in Serbia using people in power and family members for the opposition’s political fight but putting someone’s child into the context of a war in the underground in an unprecedented scandal,” he said and added that the report makes Danilo Vucic a target and endangers his life.

Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic condemned what she claims is just the latest attack on the president’s son, asking if “all the people who cried over the fabricated attack on Dragan Djilas’ children will condemn this attack on Aleksandar Vucic’s children”.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in a Twitter post that the report is tabloid journalism with double standards.

President Vucic refused to comment the KRIK report but published a picture of himself and son Danilo on his Twitter account.

KRIK editor in chief Stevan Dojcinovic said that the report was months in the making and that Danilo Vucic was included in just one segment.
