The Serbian government adopted amendments to two election laws, making it easier to notarize signatures in support of candidates at parliamentary and election conditions.

Under the amendments, city and municipal services can now notarize those signatures as well as notaries public. A press release said that the number of authorized notaries has to be increased for the election process to go ahead, adding that the decision helps reduce the danger of large numbers of people gathering in one place during the coronavirus pandemic.

It added that the changes to the law were adopted to protect the population who have to maintain social distancing measures after the state of emergency is lifted.
