In a month or two, if the measures are respected, the Covid-19 epidemic in Serbia will start to subside, and when the authorities confirm a drop in the number of newly-discovered patients for four consecutive days additional 28 days of caution will be needed, said Dr Peng Zhiqiang, team leader of doctors from China who came to Serbia to help fight the epidemic.
“When you record a four-day drop in the number of newly-discovered cases, you'll still have two 14-day cycles which is the usual incubation period, which means 28 days of caution. Then you'll be able to relax,” Peng Zhiqiang said in an interview with the Vecernje Novosti daily.
He said he believes Serbia will be able to put the epidemic under control in a month or two.
Asked what the further course of the epidemic would depend on, he said that it would depend on how quickly the patients would be detected, especially those in isolation.
"They should be placed in hospitals and treated as soon as possible. Also, those who have been in contact with the sick must be placed in collective quarantine. It is very difficult to prevent the spread of the infection in home isolation. We in China are convinced of this," he said. Peng Zhiqiang.
