There are no people affected with coronavirus in Serbia, President Aleksandar Vucic has said on Wednesday after meeting all health and other institutions’ representatives included in fighting the virus, N1 reported.
He criticised “the campaign of lies and untruths on social networks” during which some claimed that there were deaths in Serbia caused by a coronavirus.
“Not only there are no dead patients, anyone is positive on coronavirus. So, coronavirus does not exist in Serbia right now,” Vucic told reporters.
Regardless, he added, all preventive measures and urgent reactions by all respective state institutions were prepared in case the virus reached Serbia.
He asked people not to buy staples reserves, because there was no need to spare money, adding that as of Thursday, the Health Ministry would report on all changes in the situation with the coronavirus twice a day at 8 am and 6 pm.
Predrag Kon, the head of the City Public Health Institute’s Infectious Diseases Department, said that “media fire doesn’t mirror the threat we are facing.”
He added that the death rate from coronavirus was two percent, “perhaps lower.”
“That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t have a minor epidemic or a death case, but it’s far from influencing the life in Serbia,” Kon said.
If coronavirus survives on the southern hemisphere when the summer comes, “we’ll continue to live with it as we do with a flu virus.”
