Jamaican Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith denied claims by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci that her country had recognized Kosovo.
Johnson-Smith re-tweeted Thaci’s claim of recognition by her country with a short comment saying that “to date, Jamaica has not recognized Kosovo as an independent state”. The tweet was reported by the press in Pristina.
Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said news that Jamaica recognised Kosovo’s independence and then its denial proved that many countries were under pressure to recognise Kosovo as an independent state. He added Belgrade would ask for an official confirmation of the denial.

Thaci tweeted that Kosovo’s Ambassador in the US Vlora Citaku had informed him that Jamaica had recognized Kosovo. His tweet drew expressions of gratitude from a number of officials in Pristina, including Prime Minister Albin Kurti who said this was a good start to the year for Kosovo’s diplomatic service.
