Serbian military bands launched Statehood Day celebrations with parades in the capital Belgrade and the southern city of Nis and 10 salvos from the Kalemegdan fortress.

Serbia celebrates its national holiday on February 15-16, marking the date when its first Constitution was adopted in 1835 and the date that the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire began in 1804.

The Guards Battalion fired 10 rounds from six artillery pieces to mark the holiday after the Guards Orchestra marched from Republic Square to the Kalmegdan fortress playing marches dating back to the Kingdom of Serbia.

A Defense Ministry press release said that the Military Orchestra marched through central streets in the city of Nis.
