Serbian opposition leaders told European Parliament officials in Brussels on Wednesday that they stand firm in their decision to boycott the coming elections at both national and local level.

A press release from the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) said that SzS chair Dragand Djilas, Sabac Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic and Movement of Free Citizens official Natan Albahari met with European Parliament deputy Speaker Clara Dobrev and MEPs Tanja Fajon and Vladimir Bilcik (both members of the EU delegation to the dialogue on election conditions in Serbia).

The SzS officials said that they were standing by the boycott decision because the pressure on the media is intensifying in Serbia, because N1 TV is being expelled from the offer of cable operators and the “brutal media demonization of rivals of the regime” as well as attempts to establish full control over the judiciary and voters, the press release said.

It quoted them as saying that it is clear that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic deceived the EP officials who took part in the dialogue on election conditions and that the authorities did not meet the obligations that they accepted.
