The High Court of Justice in London has ruled that it does not have jurisdiction in a pedophilia and sexual harassment suit filed by a group of six people against the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The law suit was filed with the High Court of Justice in January 2019.

The court ruled that the plaintiffs made procedural errors but added that even if they had not made those errors, English law does not recognize universal jurisdiction in civil suits. The acts listed in the law suit were not committed in England or Wales nor do the victims and/or perpetrators have any connection to those territories.

The court also accepted the argument that the Serbian Orthodox Church bishoprics are economically and legally autonomous in relation to the Patriarchate in Belgrade.
