The Novosti company, which publishes one of the main Serbian daily newspapers Vecernje Novosti, has been taken over by the Media 026 company, the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS) said on Tuesday.
The NUNS statement said that Media 026 is owned by Boban Rajic, a businessman from Smederevo who is alleged to have links to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Media 026 is part of the Coka group which employs about 1,000 people and is reported to have an income of dozens of millions of Euro.
Rajic’s company now owns 98.055 percent of Novosti, the UNS said, adding that the remaining 1.95 percent is owned by the Beodragos company.
The statement recalled that Vecernje Novosti daily said on November 15 that Media 026 had taken over the print shop owned by Novosti under a company restructuring plan.
