Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic met with European Parliament official Tanja Fajon MEP to discuss the country’s European integration process prior to the 11th session of the European Union-Serbia Stabilization and Association Committee, a statement from Gojkovic’s cabinet said on Tuesday.
The Committee is scheduled to meet at the Serbian Parliament on October 30-31 this week.
Gojkovic is quoted as saying that the meeting provides opportunity to review the current situation in terms of Serbia’s EU accession. She added that she expects the meeting to note what she sees as evident progress in the work of the Serbian parliament following the implementation of European Commission suggestions.
The statement quotes Fajon as saying that she feels that it’s important to continue efforts to expand the EU to the Western Balkans and that she voiced optimism that expansion will remain high on the agenda. She said that Serbia is important for the stability of the region and added that she expects it to open more chapters in the pre-accession negotiations.
