The CarGo association said on Monday that more than 100 of its drivers tried to prevent what it said was the illegal seizure of a CarGo driver’s car.
The group of CarGo drivers and association officials sat down around the parking lot where the car was located, trying but failing to stop city Parking Service staff from towing the car.
The press release said that there were more than 20 police units present in Bulevar Mihajla Pupina in New Belgrade, blocking the street.
CarGo said that the driver’s car was being seized without any record, with no traffic inspector present. “The traffic police have allowed police intervention units to do their job in violation of the law and constitution,” CarGo Association President Aleksandar Vucic is quoted as saying. Vucic (no relation to the Serbian president) added that the whole thing looked like a police operation to arrest drug traffickers. “Belgrade looks like Medelin tonight and that is shameful,” he said.
