The Serbian Journalists’ Association (UNS) on Friday protested over the ban on Al Jazeera and N1 at the opening of the Cibuk 1 wind farm by the facility’s owner the Masdar company from Abu Dhabi and demanded an apology to those two TV stations.

A press release said that the UNS was told by Al Jazeera reporter Djordje Kostic that his crew and the N1 crew were not allowed to cover the ceremony which was attended by President Aleksandar Vucic and several ministers by the United Arab Emirates ambassador in Belgrade.

The President’s media advisor Suzana Vasiljevic told the UNS that the hosts decided who could attend the ceremony, adding that the president’s cabinet does not give permission to media for events that it does not organize. “We invite journalists and send the list to the hosts. That’s what happened today,” she said.

The UNS said that the law on public information and the media forbids any kind of discrimination of journalists and added that the organizers were obliged to abide by the law.
