Serbia has been invited to appoint one of the members of the World Health Organization (WHO) Board of Directors, the Serbian Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The offer was made to Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar during his meeting with the new WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

“This is the first time that Serbia and our health care system has been given such a high-ranking position in the WHO and that is also confirmation of the results which our country has achieved in the past few years in terms of reforms and the quality of the health care system,” a ministry press release said.

Doctor Kluge recently visited Belgrade where he met with Minister Loncar and toured the Serbian Clinical Center.
