Belgrade city communal services cleared an illegal garbage dump in one of the capital’s suburbs following last week’s visit by Mayor Zoran Radojicic, the Beoinfo city news service said on Friday.

The communal services cleared away 500 cubic meters of garbage from the dump site in the suburb of Ripanj, thought to be one of the biggest illegal waste disposal sites in the city.

Radojicic said he was satisfied with the outcome of the operation and appealed to the local population not to leave garbage at the site.

He said that there are between 40 and 50 illegal garbage dumps across the city which will be cleared in the future and added that communal services have cleared some 7,500 cubic meters of various types of waste this year with a budget of some 10 million Dinars (1 Euro – 118 Dinars) for the operation.
