The US ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott and his partners and friends will commemorate the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York’s World Trade Centre by donating blood in Serbia’s Red Cross, the Beta news agency has reported.

After the terrorist attacks on September 9, 2001, that killed some 3,000 (excluding 19 hijackers) and wounded more than 6,000 people in Twin Towers in Lower Manhattan, “many Americans wanted to help and many did it by donating blood,” the embassy said in a statement.

“Since blood reserves in Serbia are low during summer, following the example of our compatriots, we will donate blood to the community which offered us kind hospitality here in Belgrade,” the statement said.

It is the ninth time that the US embassy and Serbia’s Red Cross organise the voluntary blood donation and pay respect to the 9/11 victims.
