A decommissioned Yugoslav army tank has been parked in front of the Red Star Belgrade stadium prior to Tuesday’s League of Champions play off match against the Swiss Young Boys.

The Soviet-made T-55 main battle tank was placed in front of the entrances to the northern side of the Rajko Mitic Stadium on Monday afternoon, Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti reported on its web site.

It added that the RSB football fan club web site said that the tank was brought there “to symbolize the supporter slogan Zvezda’s Machine Has Started”. The northern side of the stadium is traditionally reserved for Red Star supporters.

Vecernje Novosti said the tank was used at the start of the wars of the 1990s and has been fully decommissioned and was the given to Red Star supporters by one of the companies which decommissions military eqyuipment.
