Zoran Zaev, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia said on Monday he hoped Skopje and Athens would continue to develop building the friendship, despite the government he signed a historic agreement with lost the Sunday’s election,” the FoNet news agency reported.

After talking to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, new Greek Prime Minister, Zaev said Greece was his country’s strategic partner which supported Skopje in its effort to open the accession talks with the European Union.

Zaev thanked former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for cooperation and joint decision to resolve the 27-year-long dispute over the name of Macedonia. The deal on the new name, North Macedonia, enabled the country’s chances of joining NATO and starting the talks with the EU.
