The deposed former mayor of a small town in southern Serbia has been reinstated as a member of the municipal council, Blic daily reported on Thursday.
Former Mayor Milutin Jelicic Jutka (a member of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party – SNS) was forced to resign as mayor following accusations of sexual harassment and a law suit filed by his former secretary Marija Lukic.
The municipal assembly in the town of Brus voted to hand back Jelicic’s seat at his request which means that he can run for mayor again. Jelicic handed back his seat when he was initially elected to head the municipal administration. Commenting the decision,
Lukic said the situation is absurd. “All this is absurd as it has been so far. I can’t believe what Jelicic is prepared to do,” she said. The court case Lukic brought against Jelicic was moved from Brus to a court in Belgrade following demonstrations by Jelicic’s supporters.
