Belgrade was hit by heavy rain and winds for a second day running on Wednesday with water flooding streets and even removing the asphalt on a street in the Banovo Brdo neighborhood.

The amount of rain that fell was too much for the city’s sewers to handle and a large number of roads turned into ponds and rivers with some of the water staying in place for hours after the end of the storm.  

In some places, water was reported to have spurted out of manhole covers.  

The national Hydro-meteorology Department said that between 20 and 40 millimetres of rain fell per square metre across the city.
