Serbia has so far failed to handle political violence which had mounted in recent days with the beatings of three students in the University campus in the northern city of Novi Sad, while in the last six months there were a total of 11 victims, an opposition leader said on Friday, N1 reported
Commenting on Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic call to the opposition leaders and a sociologist to determine the time and place to meet with him, Janko Veselinovic, the chairman of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS), said “Aleksandar Vucic calls for physical show-down, instead to seriously treating the opposition and the rebellious people.”
He added the call was a “message to Vucic’s followers to confront their political opponents with bats and metal bars.”
“The students were beaten up only because they have their own political opinion. The police haven’t discovered any perpetrator yet,” Veselinovic said.
He listed the names and showed the photos of all people who were attacked in the last six months across Serbia, and demanded an urgent investigation into the perpetrators and masterminds of that violence.
Veselinovic asked if the responsibility for such a situation was on the country’s top leaders, i.e. Vucic since not a single attacker in 11 cases was found and processed.
