The consumption of plastic bags has dropped by 80 percent since the law on packaging and packaging waste was introduced, Environment Minister Goran Trivan said at an informal meeting with his European Union counterparts in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.

A ministry press release quoted him as saying that the consumption of plastic bags in Serbia is now in line with the standards of the EU and specifying that it had dropped by 50 bags per capita.

Trivan said that EU support to Serbia is important, especially in waste and waste water management, as priorities in environmental protection.
