Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Croatia’s Ambassador in Belgrade Gordan Bakot agreed during Tuesday’s meeting that a visit to Belgrade by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic would help improve cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed that Plenkovic’s visit would be a good signal for the further promotion of cooperation and an inter-state dialogue, a government press release said.

Brnabic is quoted as saying that Serbia-Croatia relations are important to the stability of the region, adding that dialogue has to be promoted along with intesive efforts to resolve all open questions.

Ambassador Bakota said that European Union membership for the countries of the Western Balkans is crucial to their prosperity, adding that this will be one of the main issues during Croatia’s chairmanship of the EU Council in the first half of 2020. According to Bakota, Croatia is planning to organize an EU-Western Balkans summit to discuss the region’s prospects and expansion of the union.

They said that cross-border cooperation, using IPA funds, could greatly help improve minority rights.
