Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday that the authorities in Pristina are planning to arrest a number of people on corruption charges and leave the north of Kosovo unprotected.
He told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the plan is to arrest 26 police officers and 15 others. He said that the Kosovo authorities want to arrest the police officers and others starting on Monday „using the excuse of corruption to leave the north unprotected, primarily Kosovska Mitrovica, so that they can do the worst things against our people“.
Marko Djuric, the head of Serbia’s Office for Kosovo said Belgrade did not want conflicts, but that no one should think Serbia would ignore its obligation to protect the Serbs in Kosovo in an eventual “terror and persecution.”
„That would be followed by the final takeover of the areas where Serbs live, especially in the north,“ he said.
The president said that Belgrade had informed all international institutions about the plan, adding that Serbia would react with restraint, calmly but would safeguard and protect its people.
