Snow has been reported on mountain peaks in Montenegro and Serbia on Wednesday with rain forecast to last the rest of the week.
Local media reported that snow had fallen on Mt Zabljak and the hills around the town of Berane in Montenegro . Snow was also reported on Mts Kopaonik, Divcibare and Zlatar in Serbia with photographs posted on social media.
Climatologist Dragan Buric said that the weather in Montenegro in the first half of the year was the coldest since 1949, adding that higher temperatures can be expected towards the end of the month.
Serbian meteorologist Jugoslav Nikolic added that the rains will continue to the end of the week before the weather stabilizes. Nikolic, head of the Republic Hydrometeorology Department (RHMZ), told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the waters of the Sava river are expected to continue rising up to May 18.
