Serb List candidates for mayor at elections in four northern Kosovo municipalities were not confirmed by the Central Election Commission on Tuesday.

Two Commission members from the Vetevendosje (self-determination) movement refused to vote to confirm the three Serb List candidates, saying that they violated the constitution and denied the population access to services when they resigned five months ago.

Four mayors of Serb-majority municipalities tendered their resignations in protest over last November’s decision by the Kosovo government to impose 100 percent tariffs on Serbian goods. President Hashim Thaci recently called the elections for May 19.

Two thirds of the votes are required for the Central Election Commission to confirm candidates.
