Serbia marks Holocaust Remembrance Day, memorial centre soon Izvor: N1

State’s officials and the association of camp prisoners marked the Holocaust Remembrance Day in Serbia by laying wreaths at the Victims of Fascism Monument, N1 reported.

During the WW II German occupation of Belgrade 1941-1944, some 6,500 Jews and Roma were killed, while by the end of the war, about 10,000 Serbs were murdered in the Staro Sajmiste camp.

The Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said he hoped that in the next few weeks a law on building the Memorial Centre at the place of the former death camp would be on a Government session’s agenda and then passed to the Parliament.
