Serbia attaches great importance to China’s Belt and Road cooperation mechanism, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told a conference on that initiative, adding that Serbia is one of the important points of the New Silk Road in Europe.
“It’s geo-strategic position has opened up opportunities for our country to become a point of intersection for the New Silk Road and the Express Sea-Land Line between China and Europe whose symbol will be the new fast railway between Belgrade and Budapest,” Dacic told the conference.
He said the Chinese initiative is “certainly one of the most important in modern history” and recalled that Serbian and China recently signed agreements to build roads and establish cooperation between the state-owned Serbian Post Office Savings bank and Chinese Development Bank. “We are preparing to sign a large number of agreements in a few days in Beijing,” Dacic said. The 2nd Belt and Road Forum will be held in the Chinese capital next week.
