Kosovo’s Central Election Commission on Friday confirmed that three parties will field candidates in the elections for mayor in four northern Serb-majority municipalities.
A press release specified that the Serb List, Democratic Party of Kosovo and Vetëvendosje (self-determination) have filed the required paperwork for the elections in Mitrovica North, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic on May 19th. A total of 58,520 voters are registered in those four municipalities.
The documents will be reviewed by the Office for Political Party Registration with the election commission deciding on the submissions later.
The Central Election Commission has been given 417,000 Euros for the early local elections which were called by President Hashim Thaci several months after the mayors of the four municipalities tendered their resignations in protest over the government decision to impose 100 percent tariffs on goods from Serbia and the arrest of four Kosovo Serbs alleged to have been involved in the murder of Serb opposition politician Oliver Ivanovic.
