European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Suma Chakrabarti asked Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to support regional cooperation in protecting competition, the Serbian president’s press service said on Wednesday.

A press release said that Vucic agreed to the request and added that they proposed the forming of a forum of bodies to protect competition in the Western Balkans which would be based in Belgrade.

Chakrabarti is quoted as saying that Serbia is the regional economic leader and added that a stable economic situation is the driving force being new investments as confirmed by the investments of 3.5 billion Euros in 2018. The EBRD intends to raise its portfolio in Serbia to the level of one billion Euros, the EBRD chief said.

President Vucic agreed that this year is an opportunity to attract new investments to Serbia and added that he expects more EBRD help in attracting investments for the private sector with focus on small and medium companies,” the press release said.
