The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) published a photograph which it said indicates that the Serbian president’s brother Andrej Vucic had ties to Kosovo Serb businessman Zvonko Veselinovic despite earlier denials.
Veselinovic is alleged to be linked to organized crime, Birn said, adding that the photograph shows that they worked together on an election campaign for the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in 2014.
According to the report, the photograph is the second piece of evidence that shows “possible close ties between the Serbian president’s brother and the controversial businessman from Kosovo whose name is linked to a number of acts of crime”.
Earlier, the KRIK portal published a photograph which it said was taken on Mt Kopaonik in March 2015 showing Andrej Vucic and Veselinovic sitting together in a restaurant.
BIRN said that Veselinovic was recently sentenced to two years in jail for illegal dealing in the construction of the Corridor 10 road.
Veselinovic denied meeting Andrej Vucic. “I met him once to say hello while they were still in the opposition. I don’t know the man, nor do I have any contact with him. Anyone who says they saw me with him is lying. That’s another piece of your misinformation, another spin just like every story about me,” Veselinovic told KRIK in a telephone call. Told that KRIK had a photograph of them together, Veselinovic continued to deny every meeting Andrej Vucic.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also denied any contact with Veselinovic in a 2016 interview for KRIK. At the time he said he could not say the same for his associates or his brother. “My brother never told me about that but I would have to ask him,” the president said at the time.
The report said that Andrej Vucic did not respond to calls from BIRN and KRIK.
