Dragan Djilas, one of the leaders of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS) group said he planned to form a party on April 19, on the day of “massive rally” organised by President Aleksandar Vucic, adding the new political organisation name would be “The Party of Freedom and Justice,” the FoNet news agency reported on Thursday.
Djilas, ex-leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DS) and former Mayor of Belgrade, who left the DS and stayed out of politics for a while, still did not have a party but was a founder of the SzS and its prominent member.
Together with other opposition leaders, he takes part in the #1 in 5 million civil protests in Belgrade which started last December but told the Nasa TV that the politicians did not take away the demonstrations from the organisers.
However, he added, they had to be at the helm.“If something bad happens, if someone is responsible, then we are,” adding he only called people to the April 13 rally in Belgrade expected to gather protesters from some 100 places across Serbia who had been demonstrating for months, but that organisers decided on that.
They and the opposition gave Vucic and the Government a 30-day deadline to step down or face massive protest in the capital. The period expires on Friday.
As other opposition leaders, Djilas does not expect any violence on Saturday but warns the authorities’ attempt to provoke something must not be excluded.
“I think we live in the country where one man creates violence, aggression, hatred. Vucic would like to provoke a war against someone so that Kosovo stops being the main issue. Since there is no one he can start the war against, he is trying to provoke a civil war in Serbia and to push us who think in one way against those who don't share our opinion,” Djilas said.
