A local councilor in the southern Serbian town of Pirot assaulted the mayor during a session of the town assembly on Friday.
Councilor Zoran Stojanovic from the opposition group Best For Pirot (Najbolje za Pirot) assaulted Mayor Vladan Vasic following a verbal clash between the ruling and opposition councilors.
The mayor said after the session that he had not seen anything like what he went through in his 15 years in the job and almost 20 years on the town assembly.
Best For Pirot assembly group chief Zarko Todorovic said that the incident started with insults to the seven opposition councilors. “The ruling majority has no way to defend its views and has to use trickery and provocation, insulting Stojanovic,” he said.
