Serbia is on the right track, but regional relations and the speed of the Europen Union process worry Kyle Scott, the US ambassador to Belgrade, the Beta news agency reported.
The envoy told the Belgrade Blic daily Serbia's progress in key chapters 23 and 24 (judiciary and fundamental rights and justice, freedom and security), was not as successful as Serbia’s people would like to see.
Scott said he was also worried about the regional relations.
“From time to time I’m worried about the EU integration rhythm, and I believe you have to double efforts to move forward,” Scott said, adding he referred to the EU reports on Serbia’s progress.
Speaking about Belgrade – Pristina relations, the ambassador said the US advocated the suspension of Kosovo import tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia introduced last November The move stopped the Brussels talks on normalisation of relations.
Washington seriously warned Pristina the suspension of the tariffs was crucial for Kosovo - US relations, warning effects its refusal could have on the Kosovo - US relations
He added that Serbia had “to play its role in the dialogue,” to implement the deals agreed earlier and consider compromises for future.
Scott reiterated that a solution to Kosovo issue should come directly from Belgrade and Pristina, answering the question whether he believed that the demarcation between Kosovo and Serbia could be a part of it.
“Neither the US nor anybody else should dictate the form of such agreement,” he said. .
