President Hashim Thaci on Wednesday called for the suspension of tariffs on goods from Serbia, saying that no political leader can cast doubts on Kosovo’s friendship with the United States.
“You can be a friend when you respect advice,” he told the Kosovo state TV (RTK) commenting Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s unrelenting stand on the 100 percent tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
He warned that the authorities in Pristina are divided, adding that the government should take strategic decisions about Kosovo’s EuroAtlantic prospects.
“As president I am calling them to consider all possibilities of suspending the tariffs to strengthen our strategic partnership with the US. Whoever feels the US advice should be ignored is wrong, it should be taken very seriously. No one can be above Kosovo’s strategic interests,” Thaci said.
He said Kosovo must not cast doubts on relations with the US for the sake of damages inflicted on Serbia.
