President Hashim Thaci told Vienna daily newspaper Kurier that Kosovo would open an embassy in Moscow once Pristina signs an agreement with Belgrade to normalize relations.
He said an agreement with Serbia would be meaningless without recognition of Kosovo and its membership in the United Nations.
“I am working on securing a UN seat for Kosovo and recognition at global level. We have great support from the US, especially President Donald Trump as well as acceptance from Russia if we get a comprehensive agreement. That was not there in the past. Now is a good moment internationally. If an agreement is acceptable for the European Union, US and Russia, that means global support,” Thaci said.
He said a Belgrade-Pristina agreement is “absolutely necessary”, adding that it is “difficult but not impossible”. “There should never be another war between Albanians and Serbs. The entire region should be at peace. We want a comprehensive, not a temporary agreement,” the Kosovo president said.
“We will do everything to enable the dialogue but Serbia must not set conditions,” he said and expressed the hope that the dialogue will continue and an agreement acceptable to both sides and the international community will be adopted very soon.
