The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) Western Balkans Director Zsuzsanna Hargitai told Serbia’s Environment Minister Goran Trivan on Thursday that the bank is prepared to support environmental protection projects to meet the needs of local communities.
A ministry press release said that Hargitai and Trivan decided to continue cooperation on environmental projects, especially in waste management, waste water processing, forestry and setting up a functional green fund.
It said that the EBRD official warned that awareness has to be raised about environmental protection and its importance to the safety and health of the population. “People have to be aware of the benefits which environmental protection measures bring,” Hargitai said.
Trivan is quoted as saying that Serbia lacks resources and capacities. “We are becoming ready to start serious investments in protecting the environment so that we can start setting up 350 waste water processing systems and other projects,” he said.
