Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said he believes reconciliation with Serbia will be difficult but not impossible, the Kosovo state TV (RTK) reported on Monday.
Thaci told a peace forum in Paris that the status quo is dangerous, adding that the conflict with Serbia should not be allowed to affect the next generation. He said there hasn’t been a single generation in the Western Balkans which has been spared war, adding that every effort should be invested to prevent that from happening to future generations.
He warned of the possible consequences of failure to reach an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina which, according to him, would include new wars, tragedies, stronger populism and nationalism.
In #Paris, I met President @PutinRF_Eng, focusing on dialogue for the normalization of relations btwn Kosovo & Serbia for comprehensive, binding agreement. On this topic, President Putin was clear: “If you (#Kosovo & #Serbia) achieve a peaceful agreement, Russia will support it”. pic.twitter.com/TAXILAXutD— Hashim Thaçi (@HashimThaciRKS) November 12, 2018
Thaci later wrote on his Twitter account that Russian President Vladimir Putin told him that Russia will support an agreement reached by Kosovo and Serbia.
