The Kosovo Police has arrested eight people charged with attacking buses carrying Serbs in the Istok municipality, a press release said.
The police said security measures had been planned for the visit by displaced Serbs to the Visoki Decani monastery, the Patriarch’s seat in Pec and the village of Studenica. That visit was peaceful from the start until they reached Studenica where a group of 50-60 villagers blocked the road in protest, the press release said, adding that the police managed to secure free movement for the group of Serbs.
“Several persons who were not identified at the time threw rocks at the two buses, breaking a window on one and several windows on the other. The visitors left the site safely with no injuries,” the police said.
Earlier, the police said 11 persons had been arrested and charged with disturbing the peace but were released pending trial.
