Albania‘s government said on Tuesday that it is opposed to the sale of the country’s second largest mobile phone operator to the Telekom Serbia company.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that his government would not like to see Telekom Serbia buy Telekom Albania but added that companies from Serbia are generally welcome in his country.

Telekom Serbia is one of the companies which have expressed an interest in buying the Albanian mobile phone operator which is part of the Deutsche Telekom company.

The Albanian government did not state explicitly that it would stop the sale of the Albanian company to Telekom Serbia. Rama said that his government does not customarily get involved in private transactions but does want to express its views since the mobile phone market is a strategic sector.
