Montenegro's Foreign Minister said on Monday that his country’s soldiers who would join the NATO-led international peacekeeping force Kfor in Kosovo was a part of the Podgorica international obligations and not a hostile act against the Serbs, the coastal republic’s state TV reported.

Srdjan Darmanovic was commenting on a statement from Belgrade that sending two Montenegrin officers was an act of hostility toward the Serbs.

Montenegro joined NATO in June 2017.

“There is nothing hostile in it. Montenegro is committed to meet its international obligations and thus contribute to the regional stability. That is the sole purpose of our move,” Darmanovic said, ahead of the European Union Summit on Western Balkans in London.

Earlier, Serbia’s Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said that Montenegro sent two officers to Kosovo “to support its independence, not to protect the Serbs.”
